I wanted to give a very detailed review because I tried using reviews to choose litter, but it was very hard to do because often the reviews vary wildly in describing the same qualities of the same litter. I’ll start by saying I’ve tried Fresh Step, Tidy Cats, Arm & Hammer, Pretty Litter, and various other silicone litters before settling on this one. I have one short haired, older female kitty who has one litter box.
For a long time, I used Arm & Hammer clump and seal litter. I didn’t hate it, but felt like it didn’t clump as well as it could and I wanted to try something else. So I switched to Pretty Litter for a while because I liked the color changing aspect. However, I started to notice that it wasn’t lasting as long as it was supposed to and I didn’t want to keep paying that much for something that wasn’t doing what it was supposed to. I liked the no-clump aspect, but it seemed to irritate my kitty’s toes. She was constantly picking stuff off the hair on her feet (and she doesn’t have long hair at all) and I felt like it tracked a lot. I then tried a few different silicone litters, but the more affordable ones were too hard to find regularly (ie often out of stock).
So after all that experimentation, I had a few qualities I was looking for:
– low dust
– low tracking (I live in a very small apartment where there aren’t many steps between the litter box and the couch or the bed)
– low odor
– hopefully non-clumping
I ended up compromising on the non-clumping part, because this litter meets my other wish list items so well.
– Dust: I haven’t tried some of the “natural” litters like the ones made from corn, wheat, etc. so I can’t speak for those. But otherwise I have used many of the popular litters and I have concluded that there probably isn’t a 100% dust free litter. I think it’s just the nature of such a product. However, this has less dust than any other litter I can think of and I love that.
– Tracking: again, not sure if there exists a 100% no track litter. But in my experience, this tracks the least. I did notice after I was sick for a couple weeks (still scooping ofc but not as worried about cleaning up the litter on the floor) it did start to get a little spread out and ground into the carpet. But as long as I was vacuuming regularly I barely noticed any tracking.
– Odor: this and the low tracking were probably the main selling points for me. I’ve honestly forgotten to scoop the box a couple times because I. NEVER. SMELL IT! Even when scooping it, it hardly smells. Only towards the end of its life cycle does it tend to stink much, but again, that’s only when scooping. And I use the scent free one! I hate the smell of scented cat litter (it gets too strong for me and in my head it’s a “cover up” smell, like spraying perfume on a dirty shirt or pants lol) I think this is the best quality of this litter. If odor is your sticking point, I’d definitely recommend trying this.
– Clumping: as I said above, this was what I compromised on. **This IS a clumping litter.** But it clumps EXTREMELY well. Honestly sometimes it’s a bit like scooping a rock. If it’s a larger clump sometimes I have to put in some effort to break it in half. So because of that and how great the other qualities are, I was fine with switching back to a clumping litter. I have a Litter Genie so it’s not too much of an inconvenience. Actually, my only (very minor) complaint would be that the clumps get too heavy to fill the Litter Genie bag as full as I’d like, but it doesn’t bother me that much.
– Price: I haven’t sat down and figured out how this one compares to the others in terms of price, but it’s at least comparable and I think very reasonable for the quality of what you get. The 18lb bag is a little more than enough to fill up the litter box, and has been lasting about a month.
So glad I decided to try Dr. Elsey’s! I hope this review is helpful to anyone else shopping around for litter like I was.

Dr. Elsey’s Ultra Unscented Clumping Clay Cat Litter is hands down one of the best litters I’ve ever used. The clumping power is outstanding—tight, solid clumps that don’t break apart, making scooping fast and mess-free. Even with multiple cats, it controls odors incredibly well without relying on any heavy perfumes, which I really appreciate.
The texture is just right: fine enough for easy digging but not so dusty that it gets everywhere. My cats took to it right away, and the low-dust formula keeps my home cleaner and my cats happier. It also lasts longer than other brands I’ve tried, so it’s a great value for the price.
If you’re looking for a litter that truly delivers on odor control, clumping strength, and ease of cleaning, Dr. Elsey’s Ultra is a top-tier choice. Highly recommend for any cat household!

You might see the cost per pound and think this is more than other brands but what you should really do is compare cost over a period of time like 6 months. Because I’ve used cheap litter and what ends up happening is you throw more of it away because it doesn’t clump well or it falls apart when shifting. This stuff clumps HARD. Yes you might have to scrape the bottom of the pan. But there are really good shovels and I use a stainless litter box. If you sift slowly and carefully you throw away only what is used for the waste. So in the end the value turns out better or about the same. So if it’s the same why bother?. Because you won’t be frustrated cleaning the litter. Low dust, no smell. Great stuff. I read the drivers hate this the most. Quite heavy

I love Dr. Elsey’s Ultra Unscented Cat Litter. It clumps tightly, making scooping quick and easy, and it controls odors really well without any added fragrance. The texture is good, low on dust, and my cats took to it immediately. A reliable, high-quality litter that’s absolutely worth it.

Dr. Elsey’s Ultra Cat Litter truly lives up to the hype! It clumps incredibly well, making scooping quick and mess-free. Even with multiple cats, the odor control is outstanding — my home stays fresh without needing to change the litter too often.
There’s very minimal dust compared to other brands I’ve used, and it doesn’t track around the house, which is a big plus. My cats had no issues transitioning to it either. If you’re looking for a high-performance litter that’s clean, efficient, and keeps odors at bay, this is definitely the one to go for!

Dr. Elsey’s Precious Cat Ultra Cat Litter exemplifies high performance across multiple key parameters: absorbency, clumping integrity, hygiene maintenance, and cost-efficiency. Formulated from premium-grade medium-grain sodium bentonite, the litter demonstrates rapid liquid absorption, forming structurally stable clumps that prevent fluid dispersion and reduce ammonia-related odour—supporting optimal litter hygiene and ease of cleaning.
Absorbency is a standout feature; the granules encapsulate moisture rapidly, resulting in dense clumps that are easily removed without residue. This not only maintains a clean litter bed but significantly limits the need for full litter replacement, enhancing long-term value for money. When paired with automated litter systems such as PETKIT, the efficiency is further amplified—minimising waste, extending refill intervals, and ensuring consistent sensor responsiveness. This compatibility markedly improves functionality for multi-cat or high-traffic households.
In terms of texture, the granule size strikes a practical balance—fine enough to ensure feline comfort underfoot, while coarse enough to resist compaction and minimise tracking. The product adheres minimally to the paws and coat, reducing particulate transfer beyond the litter area. While a small amount of dust may be generated during initial pouring, in-use dust levels remain low and non-intrusive, supporting respiratory health and indoor air quality.
Behavioural acceptance is exemplary. In the case of a British Shorthair introduced to this litter from initial acclimatisation, consistent use and strong litter box fidelity have been observed—suggesting high palatability and environmental compatibility.
Economically, the product provides excellent value, with conservative usage enabled by effective clump isolation and low daily waste output. This positions it as a highly sustainable choice for long-term use, particularly when integrated into automated systems.
In conclusion, Dr. Elsey’s Ultra Cat Litter is a functionally advanced, behaviourally compatible, and economically sound product. Its superior absorbency, low-tracking composition, and high compatibility with modern litter systems render it an outstanding solution for feline hygiene management.

As a devoted cat owner, finding the perfect litter for my feline friend is always a top priority. That’s why I turned to Dr. Elsey’s Precious Cat Ultra Cat Litter, and let me tell you, it’s been a game-changer.
First off, let’s talk clumping power. This stuff is no joke. As soon as my cat does her business, it forms tight clumps that make scooping a breeze. It’s like magic! Plus, it means I’m not wasting litter and can make the bag last longer, which is a win-win in my book. Now, onto the smell. I have the litter boxes in my bedroom, so odor control is non-negotiable. Thankfully, Dr. Elsey’s Ultra Cat Litter has got it covered. It traps odors like nobody’s business, keeping my home smelling fresh and clean, even with a litter box in the corner. And can we talk about the dust situation? With other litters, I felt like I needed a hazmat suit every time I cleaned the box. But not with this one. It’s virtually dust-free, which gives me peace of mind knowing my cat and I aren’t breathing in anything harmful. All in all, Dr. Elsey’s Precious Cat Ultra Cat Litter has exceeded my expectations in every way. It’s reliable, effective, and makes caring for my cat a whole lot easier. If you’re a fellow cat owner on the hunt for the perfect litter, do yourself a favor and give this one a try. You won’t be disappointed.

This litter works well for multiple cats and clumps firmly without breaking apart. It doesn’t have any perfume smell, which I appreciate. The dust is minimal compared to cheaper brands, though not completely dust-free when pouring. Odor control is good as long as the box is cleaned daily. It’s heavy to carry, but the value for the size makes it worth it. Overall, it’s a solid, dependable litter that does what it should without extra fuss.
