These are the best to eat dry because they are simply one of the best tasting keto snacks out there. I used to eat the egg dry out of cup ramen in the early 90s until they stopped putting them in the noodles for some reason. These have that same effect. They melt in your mouth and have a very reduced “eggy” flavor when you eat them freeze dried. I wish there was some of these marketed for snacking instead of camping because they would probably be a little cheaper. The prime sale over the last few days made them cheap enough to buy a couple bags. Please make a snacking line of these eggs, they are awesome.

Works as explained. Tested with hot/insta hot boiling water. Fresh, tasty.
Exceptional packaging. The packets are very durable and well-sealed. Can throw in backpack, gear with other things and the packet is damage and water resistant and protects the food. Fresh tasting food inside. Zip seal is solid once opened.
Works “MRE like” in terms of portability, emergency use ready and still great for every day busy lifestyle preference for food-on-the-go. Lightweight and simple food taste.

Tastes like it is fresh out of the kitchen. Easy to make. Perfect to carry camping. Great value especially when better than making in the wilderness. Fills you up for a full morning.

When I was in college, I, “accidentally” found my way into an old Cold War bomb shelter. There were lots of freeze dried meals, so I liberated a few, being a poor college student. After eating a couple of them, I decided that it would actually be better to die in a nuclear holocaust than to have to survive on those things.

fast forward to 2025. I’ve tried a whole bunch of camping meals by many different manufacturers and they all have left me wanting for a variety of reasons. Either the food was bland or it was just disgusting or the packaging was bad. I heard that this brand was supposed to be really good. A friend of mine who is a nurse sent me a text message one night saying that she was hungry but the cafeteria was closed and nobody would deliver food that late. I sent her four of these meals, all different, and suggested that she keep one in her bag and one in her car for just such an occasion. She told me that they were delicious. I bought a bunch of them for myself and I have to agree.

These meals are wayyyyy better than anything I’ve ever tried. They have great flavor, great texture and are substantial in size. The packaging is awesome. It is thick, heavy material with a zip lock that really holds in the moisture. This is important for two reasons. I add the hot water, seal the bag and let it sit for five minutes and then I turn it over upside down for another five minutes so that the remaining water drains down to the top of the bag and hydrates everything up there. I have yet to have a single drop leak out.

Really a great value for the money at 10 bucks. I keep them around for those situations where I’m working at 2 o’clock in the morning and I am really hungry, but don’t want to take the time to make food. I can get a great meal in 10 minutes.

I’m a huge fan of Mountain House meals and I’m usually quite pleased with the quality. However these scrambled eggs left me a little disappointed when compared to their other foods. Sure it’s very convenient and is a great meal to have out in the middle of nowhere, but that’s about all the good I can say about it.

The main drawback for me is the excess water left over even after following their heating instructions to a tee, which leaves the eggs quite soggy and soupy if not fully drained. I drained mine through a fine mesh sieve thoroughly and they were still rather soggy. Texture was off. If you have nothing to strain them with, you’ll have a hard time getting all the extra water out without losing some of the eggs. In Contrast, the “Breakfast Skillet” option with scrambled eggs, potatoes, onions and peppers turns out just fine with no excess water at the end. This makes me wonder if adding less water than the instructions call for could be an improvement for the scrambled eggs and bacon meal.

Other than the soggy eggs and excess water left over, they’re OK as a convenient hot meal when youre away from civilization. It beats a granola bar for sure. A little on the bland side though. The bacon adds some needed flavor but the pieces are very small and not substantial. I was expecting more bacon and larger pieces.

To sum it up, this is not one of the better meals from Mountain House. They make much better options than this one, in my opinion.

After many years of seeing these freezdried meals I decided to finally test one out on a recent camping trip.

    Impressions :

    1. The packaging is a little bulkier than what you could carry/pack yourself if you are trying to space save while backpacking, may be worth repacking into ziploc if planning to use within a day or so.

    2. Preparation: boiling water was easy. while I stirred thoroughly, It did not fully mix and I ended up with some “undercooked” bits at the bottom. Make sure you stir well in bottom creases of bag.

    3. Taste and portion was pretty good for one person and I felt satisfied. Although some of the sausage chunks were a bit hard/underhydrated even though I followed the directions on the bag.

I’d recommend pouring the entire contents of the bag into your boiling water pot and keep heating for a minute or so before pouring back into original bag to finish soaking, to help fully cook through. Or repack in ziploc and just cook as desired in your camp pot if you don’t mind cleaning it afterwards.

Overall though it met expectations and was easier and better than what I could make on my own in the backcountry, although they are a bit expensive.

I really like Mountain House. The dinners I’ve had are great, so I figured I’d try a breakfast. I keep one of these in my work bag just incase I get hungry before I go home for lunch. It fills me up and I don’t end up feeling hungry till around dinner time. Tastes amazing and rehydrates well, the texture is spot on.
