Consigliatissimo senza dubbio.

Have wanted a controller with the dpad in the main position (PS layout) for a while that has a good dpad. I can live with either position for the sticks, it’s just the dpad I care more about the position of. Others are either really expensive swappable ones or just don’t have a great dpad or bad latency (Tarantula pro). This is finally just what I wanted. I love this controller.

I bought a wired pro 2 g classic before and the dpad just sucked. Maybe it was a bad one. But I haven’t bought another 8bitdo controller since because I didn’t trust their ability to make a good dpad. But this one is perfect. Easy to press down but still won’t actuate any direction that you don’t want. Perfectly precise and you can feel every direction that gets pressed, and a very quiet click. It still does the thing of being able to press down the middle of the dpad and press down all of the directions at once but it doesn’t actually matter in this case.

Gave it a try for platforming (Celeste) and fighting (Mortal Kombat 1). Flawless in both cases.

Good amount of extra buttons, triggers swappable to analog or digital clicks, swappable face buttons that are very secure. Joysticks center perfectly and have very low deadzone (could use a bit more tension though). Unable to detect any latency from just looking at screen and pressing buttons (both from 2.4ghz on pc and bluetooth on switch 2). This is basically my dream controller. This is now the controller I will use for absolutely everything.

Yes, the face buttons are clackety and kinda loud. I don’t care, you might. And it would be nice if it woke the switch 2 but it’s not enough to make me feel negatively in any way.

ABXY buttons are very loud! If this is a dealbreaker, consider a different controller (Pro 2 is still ok).

    Otherwise is a good product

Excellent controller so far. I bought this after feeling frustrated with the D-Pad on all of my other controllers, specifically Switch (1 and 2) Pro, and an otherwise-excellent wired GameSir x-box style controller I use on PC. None of them have great D-pads, which are important for retro style games such as UFO50. This 8bitdo controller feels like a high-quality product all around. Synched to my Switch instantly. Joysticks and triggers feel great. Face buttons are responsive. Dpad is nice and clicky, feels precise, and immediately improved my accuracy on several retro games. My only minor nitpick is with the home button – it’s a little too close to the A button, and easy to accidentally hit when gameplay gets too frantic. Otherwise a perfect controller. The charging dock is nice too.

I’ve been using 8BitDo controllers for a couple of years now. This is the first of the Pro type, I’ve always used the Ultimate ones, and my experience so far has been excellent, it’s quite ergonomic (and It’s also a matter of getting used to it) The joysticks are amazing and the D-pad is clicky which is something I particularly like a lot, but the buttons are not although this is a matter of preference. Being able to change the buttons position it’s a great thing for those who use it with different consoles (Switch + PC in my case) The position of the fingers rests just where it should to play comfortably and the battery lasts a long time, and of course having a dock to charge it and that also looks nice is a nice touch.

Something I don’t like is that unlike the Ultimate, it doesn’t turn on or off using the 8bitDo Home button, but rather by pressing Start + first left button (X or Y) which is something I don’t like much although it’s probably a matter of habit, and the switching between Xinput and Dinput is something you can play with depending on your preference of using it with the dongle or connected via Bluetooth depending on your necessity, but overall it is a very good experience and I really recommend this controller.

Also adding the ability to change the triggers from analog to digital which is something I use too much and I think it can be very useful for those who switch between FPS games and those games that require analog triggers or maybe just for preference or comfort.

I wish there was black, but gray is quite neutral and I think it’s the prettiest of the three available colors.

I had an old 8bitdo sn30 pro+ I bought in 2020, and it was nice, functional, and worked well. It’s taken a beating from use, three moves, a toddler, and a cat over the years, and I was impressed with how it held up, so I decided to indulge in 8bitdo’s newest iteration; especially because the button swapping seemed like a neat feature for my monkey brain who switches between Switch/PC all the time.

I’m not a controller expert, I don’t know much about them, but IMO, everything “feels” right. Buttons, d-pad, triggers in both analogue and digital mode all respond in a way that “feels’ satisfactory.

It’s probably the most comfortable controller I’ve ever held. It weighs what I feel is right, and the texture feels nice in my hands. For the price, it better feel like a premium controller, and it does! Many d-pads these days feel light, or move around, or you’re never sure when you’ve pressed in, but the Pro 3 feels right. I don’t use d-pad heavy input games, but I am generally satisfied with the ~feel~. Similarly, the L4 and R4 buttons have gotten flack for being difficult to press, but I find they are quite comfortable and easy– it really seems like the controller is meant for specific hands, and fortunately for me, my hands fit!

I did have a problem on the very first day, the Ultimate Software used to update firmware would not properly update, and creating a profile ended up screwing up Steam button mapping; but a day later, the software was updated and all my issues were gone. You are always at the whim of the software/firmware, so unless you really need something specific, only update if you know why you’re updating your controller!
