I purchased two Kwikset SmartKey entry sets because they are very attractive, have a smooth operation, are an excellent value, and are more secure than most. They are also easy to install: most door knobs require you to completely unscrew the knob connecting bolts, attach the knobs, and screw the bolts all the way in again, but the Kwikset allow you to install one knob with the bolts already in place, twist the other knob onto the bolts, and just screw the bolts a few turns to secure the knob.
I also read about the security of different keyed locks, and the SmartKey is better than most because it cannot be “bumped” open by a thief. Yes, there is still a tool that thieves can use to break into a SmartKey lock, but they are less readily available and not easy to make at home. The only more secure locks are commercial anti-pick locks which get to be quite expensive. Thieves can also break a window or cut a hole in your wall if they really want to get in.
I do love the ability to re-key the SmartKey myself without additional hardware. I’ve had to re-key my house before when keys were stolen, which involved my wife sitting at home without door locks while I had them re-keyed at Home Depot. It is also nice for landlords to re-key between tenants.
I did have a problem with an audible click when I turned one of the knobs all the way. The outer metal shell of the doorknob is crimped onto the inner metal frame by four depressions, but the crimping one one of the knobs allowed the outer shell to move relative to the inner frame, resulting in an audible click. I was able to fix this (at least for now) by sliding the rosette (the decorative flange part) off the frame and applying some superglue in the four spots where the doorknob shell meets the frame.
All in all, this is a nice, secure entry knob and deadbolt set for a good price. Add the convenience of being able to re-key yourself using the SmartKey, and it makes an excellent choice for an entry door.

I looked on Youtube videos on how to put this on and it looked pretty easy but wasn’t 100% easy with my door but once we got the bottom knob on which is easier it made the door tighter and then the top worked perfectly. I am so happy. One of the reasons why i’m happy is because I was robbed before in a previous apt and when I got home the apt was upside down including my bed they got away with $5,000 worth of guitar equipment and recording gear. I’m on disability and it took me forever to buy that and rebuy all my gear, nothings gonna make me stop my music. In the previous apt everybody should check their locks, it turned out the deadbolt of the old lock in my old apt was so small you could push the door open with force. This Kwikset Juno 991 lock is incredible it has a huge deadbolt that fits and you can twist the inside part if you need the deadbolt to not go too far like not fitting so that’s great I didn’t have to do anything though. I really love this lock and I don’t see anybody busting through this and even if they do I got 2 awesome loud alarms that work great I will be doing a review on those here on Amazon soon too, but I love this exterior door knob it’s just everything I needed. I would recommend this to others for sure.

スマートキー付きで、取り付けも簡単でした!
デザインも使用感も「素敵」です!
レバータイプではなく、ノブタイプにして不安でしたが、レバータイプじゃなくても全然問題なく、使いやすくさえ感じます!

These appear to be a higher quality Kwikset knob set. We replaced our original door lock system a while ago with a Kwikset brand from one of the big box stores. In that instance, bought a matched set for two doors. Those always seemed a bit flimsy and cheap even not so price wise from the store. They are no comparison to this set I’m reviewing now. I purchased two sets of these to replace the others. I needed matching keys, but all I had to do was order two sets of the same item and the key is easily programmed to have both sets keyed the same. The thing I immediately noticed when installing these is that they felt more substantial than the other ones they were replacing. The handle was wider around although more of a flatter profile. The deadbolt has a more positive feel and the entire system seems more quality built and not flimsy. Installation was super easy. In operation the door latches smoothly and the locks work effortlessly. Everything you need is included in the sets including the screws. Instructions for key matching the lock systems are pretty clear and just takes a minute to do. Recommended!

Got what I paid for. They look good, they function, and they installed easy.

Bought 3 sets of these. Color and quality are very nice. Fairly easy to install if you follow the instructions. Smart key technology is super simple for keying all your locks to use the same key. Had some issues with one door handle but called kwikset and they replaced the part.

I replaced the cheesy lock on my house with these locks. They ate sturdy, attractive and easy to install. and work seamlessly. Being able to rekey the lock without having to go to a locksmith is labor and time saving. I can rekey whenever the need arises. I already had a set of these on the front door. Very easy to rekey so all locks use same key.

I just replaced my entry lockset and existing deadbolt with this combo-pack. Installation was very quick and easy in my existing doorway. The entry lock without the deadbolt is available also: Kwikset 740J 3 SMT CP Juno Entry Knob Featuring SmartKey, Polished Brass
Locks fit either of the two standard US backset sizes: 2 3/8″ (default) or 2 3/4 (minor change, well described and marked, just sliding a spring.)
If you’re adding a deadbolt for the first time, you’ll need to bore a hole for the deadbolt, another for the bolt itself, and chisel out the door and frame for the strike. But that’s true anytime you’re adding rather than replacing a lock, no matter what deadbolt you buy. Kwikset provides measurements and a diagram for that. However, unlike some products, they don’t provide a full-size template you can use to mark up the door.
I’ve replaced a lot of locks before, so I barely referred to the instructions. They’re printed on a very tiny sheet in minuscule type. I do get why some reviewers claim the instructions are bad. If it’s your first time installing a lock, you may want to go to Kwikset’s website or a home-improvement site to get an idea of the very simple sets involved, from an easier-to-read view.
Some reviewers have some complaints that make me think they didn’t follow or understand instructions – one mentioned that it only works on right-hand-close doors (I just installed it on a left-hand-close door), another says it installs upside-down (only if you’re doing it wrong.)
This is not a high-security entry lockset and deadbolt combo. However, it’s a lot better built than the typical cheap locks that landlords and builders use on non-high-end housing. At Amazon’s prices, there’s no penalty to upgrade to this quite sturdy lock, if you have the typical $12 junk.
I’ll second what someone said that Kwikset is one of the few entry locksets where you have to work at locking yourself out. To open the door from the inside, you must turn the locking button. It remains unlocked, and so you typically have to use your key to lock the door when you leave. Now I can take down the big “Take Your Keys!” sign my wife and I put up inside our door! Yes, you can lock yourself out if after turning the button and opening the door, you deliberately turn the button back to locked by reaching back inside before you close it. But that’s unlikely to happen, whereas the “turn the knob, go out, push the door shut, oops where’s my keys?” scenario happens all to often!
I haven’t used the self-rekeying “SmartKey” feature yet, so I can’t speak to its ease or use or reliability. They include a tool and instructions for doing it. For example, if I wanted to key this the same as our second place which has a Kwikset key, I could just use my new key, the tool, and the key from my other place, and in minutes the same key would work here. Nice! Very handy if you do temporary rentals; you can re-key from your rental key to your personal, private key, whenever you and family are using it yourself.
