I was looking for a mid size sensor interchangeable lens camera that was compact enough for traveling, that also has all the bells and whistles I need. This is it. I didn’t get the a6600 (although it has a better sensor and IBIS) because the grip is too big (due to the larger battery) and the a6600 doesn’t have a popup flash. The a6400 has a smaller grip that is easier to hold, and has a popup flash that I use for fill-flash. And it’s less expensive.

Everything seems good about the camera.
We received it within a week. Satisfied with the purchase the only thing is that the camera didn’t have a seal on it when we received it.

I was looking for a travel camera for those times when I don’t want to lug around my full frame camera and the related gear. I don’t really do much video but it is nice having 4K video when I want it. For photography, this little APS-c camera can take some great photos. Pros: 1. Light weight and small, easy to travel and walk around with. 2 has a viewfinder ( I found many this size did not). 3. Has TTL and HSS (I often shoot with strobes and speedlites) 4. Auto eye tracking is pretty good. 5. Menu and button layout isn’t as bad as some have claimed (my other cameras are Canon and it is different) 6. Has some amount of weather protection (most cameras this size did not).
Cons: 1. Battery life isn’t great (luckily batteries are small and lightweight). 2. Price…the A6400 is at least 3 models removed from the newest A series, but still in the $900’s. There are numerous other brands in the same category that are in the $550-$750 range. 3. The flip up (not out) screen is weird and takes a while to ge used to. I don’t use it much as I use the viewfinder mostly, but can see where some folks would have. A problem with it as when it is up it is directly behind the hot shoe. 4. Not great at high ISOs. From what I have seen so far, ISO 1200 is acceptable but above that it gets pretty grainy.
Overall. Great little camera for the size. It was the best choice for me as it had the majority of the capabilities I was looking for in a Small travel interchangeable lens travel camera.

I love this camera. It’s such good quality. Very beginner friendly and I love that you can upgrade your lense and settings as you get more into using the camera!! LOVE IT

Unfortunately, I cannot give this camera above one star. I have a YouTube channel and upload about two videos a week. So I really depend on a good camera for the integrity of my channel. I bought this camera five months ago and was pleased with it, and thought it produced nice quality videos. Yesterday I sat down to film a video and when I flipped up the viewfinder, I was upside down. I closed it. I turned it off. I took out the battery. I did everything I thought of to make myself right side up, but to no avail. I had to abandon filming my video, as it is a bit difficult to do a tutorial on eyeshadow placement, when your eyes are where your chin usually is! I couldn’t film that day, and today I worked on it more. I spent time in live chat with a Sony representative who, after waiting a long time, told me, “we don’t know why it’s doing this. It isn’t supposed to”. And that was that. After owning this camera for only five months, I now have to invest in a monitor to even see myself right side up. If you are wanting to start a YouTube channel, I would bypass this camera. For it to fail after five months, considering what it costs, is bad. And don’t expect any help from Sony!
****Update, after asking Sony if they could please replace this camera, they said the best they would do was to have it repaired. They sent it to a repair company and they’ve had if for almost two weeks and haven’t repaired it yet. This has been just horrible. I have no idea if or when I will get back this camera and if it will work or not.

Pros
-Picture and video quality is top notch
-Lighting fast auto-focus
-Fairly easy to pick up by a beginner photographer/videographer (such as myself) as well as the ability to hang with the pros
-Compact and lightweight makes it easy for hand carrying and vlogging
-Low light capability is outstanding
-18-50mm lens is a bargain starter lens
-EVF is simply marvelous
Cons
-Battery life could really be better if Sony would update from their 2015 design. So buy a spare and a charger
-Screen flip is nice but I really wish it would swing to the side and not the top so that i could use the hot shoe for the mic instead of mounting it to the side (as shown in the pics)
-The included mic is certainly usable but I’d recommend getting a mic like I did to really enhance the audio quality

Wanting to leave my more expensive gear at home for a recent cruise to Alaska I picked up the 6400 with the kit 16-50mm lens. While I’ve heard lots of praise for the 6400 the kit lens is often dismissed, but in my experience it was well above its price point. The image quality was crisp and colorful. I was so impressed that I usually left my bulky expensive lens in my cabin. Equally impressive was the ClearZoom function – absolutely usable up to 1.6x with no discernible quality loss for standard jpeg images.
Battery life was also much better than my A7Rii but far short of my Canon cameras. 2 batteries basically lasted for a full day of constant shooting.
Even in 2024 this is absolutely a great setup and incredibly compact and lightweight. It’ll be my summer travel camera with zero reservations.
For the money it’s an incredible value and from my experience the kit lens is no slouch. Focusing was fast and spot on.

Minha primeira câmera, estou amando usar ela. Bem pequena, compacta. Me incomoda apenas o fato de que a tela dela se movimenta de forma bem limitada, mas isso é o mínimo. Recomendo muito
