I recently purchased the Skil 5-Inch Orbital Sander from Amazon to make my woodworking projects quicker and easier—and let me tell you, I should’ve bought this years ago. Compared to my old Black & Decker, the noise level is way quieter, which means I can sand without feeling like I’m in an airport runway. The compact size is a major win—it fits perfectly in my tool cabinet and is easy to handle for tight spaces. It’s super accurate for smaller projects, giving me smooth finishes without gouging or uneven spots.
The quality is exactly what I’ve come to expect from Skil—solid, reliable, and now officially my new go-to brand for tools. The dust collection system works great for smaller jobs and can easily be detached from the sander, and I love that I can also hook it up to my shop vac for larger messes. From a functionality standpoint, it’s a total game-changer. I used to hand-sand everything (RIP to my shoulder), but now I finish jobs in half the time because of how fast the sander is and with way better results. It also came with three sanding discs, which was a nice bonus—but take my advice and grab a variety pack so you’re fully stocked with the grits you’ll actually need.

I needed to sand the rough, raised, splintered wood on my teak patio furniture, and this orbital sander did a great job. The dust catcher catches some, but not all of the dust, and is messy to unload, but still better than having wood dust flying all over the place!

Alright, so I picked up this SKIL Sander (SR211601) and put it to work when I finished my garage. Overall, I’d say it’s a solid tool, especially considering the price point.
For what I paid, this thing is a really great deal. It truly did work like a charm on the drywall – it handled the job smoothly and efficiently, making quick work of it. It feels good in the hand and just gets the job done without any fuss.
My only real gripe, as is often the case with these types of tools, is the dust collector. It comes with a dust box, and yeah, it does collect some dust, which is better than nothing. But you’ll still have a good amount of dust flying around. So if you’re doing a big sanding job, definitely plan on wearing a mask and maybe hooking it up to a shop vac if you can, or just be ready for a bit of a dusty aftermath.
Overall, this SKIL sander is a great pick for affordable DIY work at home — just don’t expect much from the dust collection.

Easy to use and lightweight. I put a foam sanding sheet attachment on it and it works great. The dust box is easy to remove and reinstall.

So far this thing is amazing. It might not be the most powerful sander out there but the dust collection on this thing is so good that it doesn’t even matter. It’s powerful enough to do fast work, but the dust collection is like nothing I have seen on a unit like this without a shop vac or dust system attached to it. Hands down the cleanest sander I’ve ever used. I hope it holds up but even for the price it’s cheap enough to not worry too much. It’s reasonably quiet and feels good in the hand. Would definitely buy again.

I’m really impressed with this random orbital sander. For the price, the quality is outstanding—it feels solid in the hand and runs smoothly.
